Handmade furniture speialists

About Portland Country Life

My interest in furniture dates back to my days as a Ba student in Product Design a Macintosh Glasgow School of Art preceded by product design studies and a Baccalaureate in Applied art in Lyon (France). After many years experience working with our company on building projects, I started in my spare time to restore furniture, sand and paint them.

The first kitchen we made was a converted coffee table upcycled, Jan with an engineering and Architecture degree acquired at University of Glasgow, Glasgow School of Art, joined in on the furniture restoration, this followed by a project to furnish a show house that was being sold, a second island was created as part of the kitchen update. It was posted online and sold within the hour.

More customers came to us with requests to make bespoke designs. From a garage, we moved to a first industrial unit in Bourne (Lincolnshire), we diversified our range, adding vanity furniture and then larders. We then moved into our present workshop a larger industrial unit and we now have a team of 6 people.
